And now…(drumroll, please)…Our Language Arts Discussion Board!!

I am thrilled to finally present to your our class discussion forum.  Many of you have posted/participated in a discussion board before, but many of you have not, so here are some quick instructions.

First, click the link to the discussion board:  Our Shiny, Happy Discussion Board

(It should open in a new window so that you can refer back here to the instructions.)

1. You should see the board, but it will tell you that you don’t have permission to view private content in the forum.

2. Login in the box in the upper right-hand corner of the page.  Your login in your first name and last initial.  (For example, mine would be Heather S) Your password is either the first or last four digits of your student ID – you’ll have to try them both.  Go ahead and login!

3.  Whoa!  There’s all the board stuff!  You should see A LOT more now than you did before.

4. Let’s focus today on the category, “Let’s Practice”.  It’s the first one on the board.   The first forum in the category “Let’s Practice” is called “Weekend Ramblings.”  Click it to enter.

5. The forum will open and you should only see one topic – the one I created…It says “Hello Pre-APeeps and Regulators!”

6. Go ahead and click that topic.

7. Now you’ll actually be able to read my post.  Next, I want you to post a response.

8. Look for the link in the upper-right hand section of the topic box titled “Quote”.  Click it.  That way my original post will be included in your response.  That will be important later.

9. A dialogue box will open up, and you’ll be able to type your response underneath all the text & html from my post.

10.  You can add a cute little smiley if you want, but be sure to only choose an APPROPRIATE smiley…

11. Click “Submit post” at the bottom of the screen.

12.  You did it!  You won’t be able to see your post right away, however, because the board is moderated and all posts must be approved before they are published.

13.  Feel free to play around if you like.  Open your profile and add an avatar and signature if you know how.   Once you figure out how to get around, you can post in the J4F forum.  I will ask, however, that you NOT post anything in the Hobbit forums yet.

Leave a comment here and let me know what you think – I can’t wait for all of us to become active posters!  It truly is fun and a pretty cool learning tool at the same time.  Viva la technology!
