This Week
Well, it’s finally December and what’s up with the 80 degree Sunday we had? It’s just not right to be SWEATING while you’re wrapping lights around the trees in your yard. {{{shakes head disappointedly}}}
So this week, my wonderful Pre-APeeps will continue reading The Hobbit. Is that a great little story so far or what? In this segment (Chapters 5 – 8), we’ll meet one of my favorite characters – Gollum. He’s…well…let’s just say he’s “precious”!
I hope you’re keeping the hero’s journey archetype in your mind, because the time will come when I’ll ask you to do an analysis of The Hobbit. Post some of your thoughts to our discussion board! Practice while you can and get comfortable with it - I’ll be taking a grade on your participation by the end of the week!
Our Discussion Board Totally Pwns Yours
My fabulous Regulators finished up “The Monkey’s Paw – full text” on Friday – I’ll never forget the way you all jumped out of your skin when Mrs. McKinzey starting laughing in the hallway! Makenze, are you okay now? (wink, wink)
This week we’ll talk about TONE – the way that an author feels about his subject. Tomorrow we’ll read “The Beast from
20,000 Fathoms” by Ray Bradbury. Do you guys remember that creepy story I read you called “The October Game” for Halloween? Same author. Same amazing diction (word choice).
On Thursday of this week I will hand you a new short story and ask you to analyze it – no pre-reading, no discussion, no review. You’re ready for it!
